Snow is removed from the roof above our bedroom

I was sitting alone in the Good Luck Diner one afternoon and looking out the window saw the head of a man getting out of his vehicle and thought “Dad!” and my heart gave a happy little leap till I remembered he’s in BC.

Yesterday we had a blue sky and glittering snow, today the sky is grey and the air is mild and still. My walks were glorious. I saw a porcupine yesterday, and a white-tailed deer today; both at some distance, but I was thrilled like a little kid anyway. You'd think I never see these creatures or something, but the truth is that the deer are plentiful. I hear they're digging into the farm's hay-bale supply lately; let's hope spring comes soon.

Patiently waiting for spring

Watch the video on Schmutzie's webpage today. It's a talk by a brain scientist who had a stroke. Fascinating.

  1. Oh, yes, I've had those happy little heart leaps too. I remember coming back from work one day and seeing my son's bike in the driveway and I heard myself say out loud, "Hey, Kevin's home." It took me a few minutes to realize that Kevin wasn't home, he never would be. It was his sister that had taken his bike out in order to feel closer to him.

  2. I'm waiting on Spring too! No sign of the sun, lots of rain heading our way. Thankfully I have a slanted roof and snow melts quickly, but lots of people will be out shoveling and removing the snow with all the rain. Happy weekend.

  3. Oh but how much deeper your disappointment must have run, Annette. I least I can get off my duff and go see my dad.

Sounds like the weather is similar out your way, Teresa. It rained here last night and the road to town is an ice rink today.

  4. the weather here has started to be milder---I was on the bus today with my down coat and almost collapsed. I love being able to put it away, but my down coat is orange, and keeps my spirits up, so there's a small downside.

  5. My sister Joan has a downfilled orange jacket that I quite covet! Lucky you.

  6. I still think I see my dad whenever I look up from my grocery cart and there's an old man with a billed cap and a flannel shirt down at the end of the aisle. Sometimes I've had to hold myself back from running over the the stranger and wrapping him in a hug.

  7. Fortunately (I think) I've only once or twice seen someone who reminds me of Mom since she passed, because I get a painful pang of useless longing.
