How Do You Start Your Day?

What if my hair stayed this way?

Maybe it does. After a bath I often parade around the house without combing my hair down after tousling it with a towel, and no one says a word. I thought they just weren't noticing, but the truth may be that my head looks this way most mornings.

This morning I stood (the Adirondack chairs were wet with dew) on the step for the longest time, soaking up the birdsong and deeply inhaling the scent of the lilacs in bloom, watching the ducks take off from and land on the water. Oh the beauty and peace and dazzle of it all. Finally I perched on the edge of a chair; my housecoat's wet bum will dry. I could have sat out there all day, visited by bumblebees and hummingbirds and finches, and so grateful to be exactly where I am.

  1. Much like you, Kate. Usually up by 5:30/6:00am and get myself a cup of tea, then let the dogs out and sit on the deck watching them and the birds for a while. Back inside and feed the cats and dogs, make breakfast, get dressed and whatnot and if I'm not working that day, I'll go back outside to eat and read the paper. By 8:00, the rest of the gang is usually up heading out to work.

It's nice, now that it's summer to be able to sit for a while and enjoy the air and watch all the little birdies.

  2. I love the idea of your spikey self perched on something wet while you're still totally satisfied with the start to your day.

No longer a working person, my day starts calmly now, still with coffee and usually with my blogging friends unless Dave is here making breakfast. I'm really a breakfast person, but when I'm alone, I go over to my bloglist, and then I'm not alone. Very satisfying, if a tad prosaic.

  3. Ha!!! Thanks for sharing the pic. So cute! Me? I pull on comfy sweats. Not quite as sexy as your look, but if I don't check my hair, it can add to the effect...
