Her mother had a pair of lamps for sale, and I was the purchaser, so off I went to Margo yesterday afternoon, or more specifically to my niece and nephew's farm just outside of town, to have a cup of tea and a visit. My sister Karen (Lexi's grandma) came over too; she lives only a mile or two away.
Except for taking Scott to the emergency department on Saturday, this was the first time I'd been out of the house in four days. I got home again just as it was getting dark, and within an hour the two lamps were shining brightly in the living room. Yay! I'll be able to read comfortably in there, and maybe even tackle the quilt Mom and I started 10 years ago. I'll be doing a happy dance on the day it is finally finished.
My great-niece Lexi, who had a secret to tell: "There's a baby in Mommy's tummy." |
Now it's snowing and blowing viciously out there and I've gotta head for town before a blizzard develops. Oh ... and breakfast. Food first! Clothes won't hurt either.
Good luck on the quilt, I. too, am a great one for the rituals of "getting ready" whether it be knitting or working on the novels or rehearsing a play.
ReplyDeleteAs if by having that perfect lamp/table/pacing room all will be perfect and completed.

Well you DO need good light in order to handstitch, or I do anyway. Ten years ago when Mom and I started this quilt, for Xmas my sister Joan gave me, as requested, a needle-threader. My poor old eyes were poor old eyes even back then — a mere babe in my forties!
DeleteI've been wanting one of those lamps that is meant for shining into your lap, but have never seen one so ... outta luck. Hope one of these new ones will do the trick. I might need reminding to pull the basket with the quilt in it out from under the bed, though. Maybe I should do that right now ... .
Life s a shit show lately (my mom is going in for a big surgery on Friday), so I feel like a raw nerve. BUT, your blog is the place that always makes me feel calmer and better. Thank you for writing about your days.
ReplyDeleteAll the best to your mom, and to you too. It's a worry.
DeleteTo hear that my little 'letters' are worth reading ... wow, that is a compliment that will help me stay in the saddle.
So...... Not really a secret then? A baby on the way??
ReplyDeleteFarTA! Michelle said she was letting all the aunties know and was going to email Dad. I forgot about you! Sorry Joan. Sorry Michelle!
