Deep Grooves

It's not easy to change one's habits of thinking!
They are powerful things, those deep grooves of habit.
I can make up my mind to change certain habits of thought, but it doesn't seem to matter. I am still compelled down paths of mental routine I don't want to take anymore. I see myself taking the steps, unable to stop.

Well of course I can stop. Dammit. And I will. I will!

These stained glass ornaments are among my favourites. I stuck them onto the two shades of the lamps purchased secondhand from my niece's grandmother's house.

  1. I have found the theory of 3 weeks with a new habit will break the old. Bollocks... :)

    1. Bollocks is right. I've tried it numerous times. I've done things for a year and still lost the "good" habit.

  2. I hear you on this one. Just when I think I have finally conquered something I find myself right back at it. Are something so ingrained in the character that no matter how much work is done they will simply keep resurfacing? Around and around I go. Keep strong, you are not alone on this.

    1. All we can do is keep trying, isn't it? And not beat ourselves up when we don't succeed.

    1. Exactly. And certain habits of thought and activity reinforce conditions we don't want to experience any longer.

    2. You guys have said some very true things. Sometimes, I get away from potato chips for a while. Then one day, in a grocery store, I buy some thinking they will last a week or more. One or two days later, they are gone. Sometimes they are shared, but mostly I eat them myself. Something about me: I love salty potato chips, the greasy kind, plain, not flavoured. That is all you really need to know about me, right, K?

    3. I'm not sure what you mean by that question, J, but I surely understand your love of plain potato chips! I have a weakness for them, myself.

    4. The question--just being goofy mostly. Getting close to finishing some projects and looking forward to the new year hopefully. . . Man, I wish I had some of those plain chips right now. One thing I don't do is drive to a grocery store in the evening to get some. Ha ha, not yet I don't.

    5. A danger of living in city or town! I'm six miles from a store, and they all close by 9 most nights even if I were to drive in. Thank goodness for popcorn.
