The Ashes
Dale's ashes have been put inside the pillar of this sundial, which Shelly set up in a raised flowerbed near a small pond overlooking their yard. While I was there she bought some round exposed-aggregate stones to make a path and a big square one to set the pillar on; the memorial is in progress and not yet complete, but I love this way of symbolically and literally keeping him close to the family.

So sad.
ReplyDeleteYeah, tore my heart out when I first saw the engraving.
DeleteI really like this and what a beautiful spot. A dear friend of mine who passed suddenly three years ago has a tree planted in a park down by the river. His sons had a large rock engraved with his name and many musical notes (he was a drummer). I actually go by there on my Friday bike rides to work and back. Often will stop, sit and listen to a particular song. He is always with me but being there at his tree adds something special to the moments.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts are with Shelly and her family as they navigate their way through this difficult time.
As was done for me when Mom died, I bought Shelly a rose bush in memory of Dale and she will probably plant it near the sundial. Whenever Mom's roses bloom here in my yard I think of her; they are a sweet and kindly reminder.
DeleteBeautiful in so many ways.
ReplyDeletea lovely way to remember him. Beautiful in many ways
ReplyDeleteSad but lovely reminder.
